About this book
Rabindranath Tagore, born in Calcutta in 1861, wrote across an unusual range of forms: poetry, short fiction, novels, plays, songs, and essays. He composed work in Bengali throughout his life and also produced English translations and original English texts. In 1913 he became the first non-European writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature, recognized largely for the English version of his poetry collection Gitanjali. This volume gathers selections from his most widely read output in a single edition.
